Sonar

SONOGRAPHY - UNDERWATER WORLD PAINTED WITH SOUNDS

The aim of our last stay at the lake Hańcza in the summer of 2010, was to take photos of so called "underwater walls". From our previous dives, we knew that these underwater geological formations are very large, and classic photography, at low water clarity and great depth, do not give their real scale. Therefore, we decided to use sonar to present ultrasound images of them. In order to put the scale we placed a figure of a diver in the picture.

Suwalskie Lakeland, Hańcza lake.

One of the "walls", located on the eastern shore of the lake. A thin red line is a transect (No. 96) marked in the profile of a wall. At the top there is lake Boczniel visible.

Picture of "wall" obtained using sidescan sonar. A thin red line is a transect (No. 96) marked in the profile wall.

Transect No. 96 shows the profile of "the wall".

This is the first of the studied landslides. Next we will publish soon.
